With the completion of the draft sequence of pig genome and gene annotation, the physical map has been outlined, and meanwhile, a large number of genetic variants associated with porcine economic traits have been reported. Here a QTANdb (Quantitative Trait Associated Nucleotide database), which was originally designed to house the publicly reported data of associations between genetic variants (SNPs, Indels, polymorphic protein, etc.) and traits in pigs, was constructed. So far, based on the reported literatures on candidate genes and genome-wide association studies, 1,447 entries (i.e.the significant associations between genetic variants and traits) have been collected and deposited in database, involving 733 SNPs from 443 candidate genes (including candidate regions from GWAS results). The information about each entry comprised of genetic variant name, variation details, the association traits, experimental design and the related references. We used B/S (browser/ server) mode to release this database, programmed by JSP and HTML5; MySQL5.0, Tomcat6.0, Dreamweaver8, Myeclipse9.0, Navigate8 were selected as development tools. We imported data into MySQL database by Navigate; Web pages were designed with Dreamweaver8; using JSP dynamic web technology to realize the function of whole system in accordance with SVG criterion. Pig QTANdb will facilitate users easily query the interested QTAN either by position on chromosomes or by trait names. Pig QTANdb will be soon released on the website: www.animalgenome.hzau.edu.cn
