The ARK-Genomics Centre for Comparative and Functional Genomics (ARK-Genomics) is an established high-throughput research and technology laboratory, based at The Roslin Institute University of Edinburgh. The centre conducts and enables research into genome structure, genetic variation, gene expression and gene function with a focus on systems of relevance to animal health and food security. ARK-Genomics combines the latest laboratory technologies with systems approaches to biological research to provide the complete genomics solution, combining wet (laboratory-based) and dry (computer-based) approaches to extract the most information from research data in the animal biosciences.  ARK-Genomics provides next-generation sequencing on the Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform. We have developed expertise in genome sequencing and re-sequencing, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, MeDIP-Seq, microRNA-Seq, genome capture, exome sequencing and SNP discovery.  The facility provides SNP genotyping from small custom designs using the Illumina BeadXpress to the higher throughput Illumina Infinium and Affymetrix Axiom technologies.  Microarray analysis is available for gene expression and copy-number-variation analysis using Affymetrix, Agilent, Illumina or Nimblegen arrays as appropriate.  ARK-Genomics is a centre of expertise in bioinformatics, working closely with a bioinformatics research team, with skills in next-generation sequencing bioinformatics, microarray and network analysis.  Genomics technologies are developing rapidly, and there is a need within the animal biosciences sector for laboratories that combine the latest genomics technologies and bioinformatics skills with in depth knowledge of animal and pathogen genomics and biology.
